Quitting Hammer is Hard to Do,
Part 1: Am I getting enough fish oils?

Part 1 on fish oil (omega 3, DHA, EPA) in my series to re-evaluate my supplements and break ties with Hammer Nutrition, unless they are the best value.

Been using from Hammer (see why I gotta give Hammer the old heave ho) Salmon Oil, 2x daily, 18 cal / 2 g fat, 20 mg Cholesterol, 20 IU E Natural (d-Alpha Tocopherl) (67%), Omega-3 Fatty Acids 750 mg >> EPA Eicosapentaenoic Acid 360mg and DHA Docosahexaenoic Acid 250 mg. $0.19 per day, $68.74 per year.

Bad sources: organ meats, high in saturted fat and toxins; eggs (may be too high in cholesterol for some)

Good sources: abundant in fatty fish, like salmon, mackerel, sardines and albacore tuna

Why: DHA is in high concentration in gray matter in the brain an the retina of the eye. Also instrumental in function of brain cell membranes (transmission of brain signals). Essential for normal development -- found in breast milk. May slow aging, lack of may be related to aging disease. EPA may have mood enhancing effects.

Take up to three 250 mg. DHA capsules daily.

Evaluate by the content of of DHA and EPA not total fat or oil content.

Don't take more than 3 grams daily.

Cooking fish is such a drag at home but maybe once in a while, plus these are the cold water fish I like, maybe halibut too?...

Meanwhile, take the pills, may this one's important!
